$25 for downloading free Medscape iphone app?

Just received an email from Medscape. They are giving out $25/- amazon gift card for downloading their free iphone app and logging in atleast one time before 5/26/2010 1159 pm! The offer is actually quite a deal.

And we did download the medscape app for iphone. It is a great app with lots of features including CME on your iphone. So this is not a waste of time. And it takes only couple of minutes to download and log into the app. The only thing we are not sure is if the offer is open for all registered members or selected few. But it is worth a try. Just go to the app store on your iphone for download.

We stumbled across a nicely written ophthalmology textbook which is available online. It is written in a very simple and entertaining language which is easy to understand. Kudos to the author for making ophthalmology so interesting. There are cartoonish diagrams to help you understand the subject better. The text size is a bit smaller but you can use your browser text size to increase it.

Don’t forget to use your CME allowance before end of the year!

It is end of the year and your CME allowance for this year will expire soon. Medical residents and employed physicians usually get CME allowance which cannot be carried over to the next year. CME allowance ranges from $1000 to $10,000. If you don’t use it up, you will lose the money. You don’t know if you have it? Call your residency program coordinator or your office manager to find out. Or look it up in your employment or residency contract.

You may be able to use the CME allowance for books, clinical supplies, CME activities etc. depending upon your institutions’ policy. But it is too late for CME activities now. So the best thing to do is spend it for medical books on online medical bookstore such as BookstoreMD (www.BookstoreMD.com) and submit your request for reimbursement before the end of the year. CME allowance is the best of free medical stuff.

We stumbled upon a CME registry called CME Trip.org. It is a CME Registration service which can be used to take your multimedia CMEs (Audio, Video, book, Magazine etc.) to any location of your choice. You can get that CME activity registered at CME Trip.org and they will issue you certificate of completion including dates and location! But we do recommend you check with your employer if they would reimburse travel expenses for multimedia CME at a location of your choice. We know of many employer and residency programs that do. This is not free, but we thought it is a great service of considerable use. Here is the link.
